Night of Solid Ice

The night was solid ice
Like crystal on everything
Frozen, clear and silent
The air wore an icy sting

Naked branches encased
In a sparkling winter dress
For they were totally embraced
By a freezing artic caress

Daggers of icicles formed
And hung from every tree
I snuggled into my coat
So cold it was for me

I grabbed my trusty camera
With my warm gloves in place
Aimed and snapped pictures
But nothing was done in haste

For it’s the magical time for
Artists and photographers too
To create the perfect picture
And capture the winter for you!

River of Ice

Rivers of water and rivers of ice
In the trees were sparking, tips of light
Nature bent it's mind to capture the sight
Of a million tiny droplets of ice-lights

The ducks they all gathered to play in the wind
Not seeming to mind what was near
They swam on the waters, with a backdrop of ice
They played with nary a care

The crackling of branches now laded with ice
Above them in the still of the night
The beauty how awesome and land oh, so white
With these rivers of waters and ice

When I pray,
I say thee and thou
and grant me this,
give me that.

My kids say,
Hi God! Thanks for my toys and my friends.
Please keep the bad dreams away tonight.
Sorry, I don't want to go to Heaven yet
I would miss my Mommy and Daddy.

Magical Night

Mystical magical lights of the night
Fell to the earth in a storm
They came down from Heaven and fell with such might
Oklahoma now a state of alarm

These lights how they twinkle in the bright moonight
Their awesome to see in the night
Their prisms reflecting from trees and the land
Oh, what a wonderful sight

The ice it rained down from the heavens above
And it poured liquid gold on the land
These twinkling lights that adorn the earth
Was designed by the Creators hand

Yes the mystical magical lights of the night
They twinkle and dance--what a sight
We give thanks to God for the beauty he gives
And the beauty he spreads in the night

Mystical magical light in the night
Such beauty and such a delight

Night of Solid Ice

After the large ice storm of Jan 2002
Ice covered things for days and days
Cold and more cold became routine
Back to normal was into many delays

Options were simple to all concerned
Either misery or a dream come true
On the roads enjoying the magical sights
As taking photos was the thing to do.

In winter the ice and snow is beautiful
But it can be so dangerous too

Be careful when out there, my friend
I don’t want anything to happen to you.

Wise Words by a man named Don

1. I have written before of the contributions the Greatest (born 1911-1924) and Silent (born 1925-1942) generations have given to the world.

2. They expanded our knowledge and productivity and accomplished more in four-score years than all previous generations combined.

3. The vast empire created by their inventions and technology has brought goodness to every corner of our world.

4. If you belong to those generations, we owe you our thanks.

5. Yet, to many of us, your job is not quite done.

6. In fact, we need you now more than ever.

7. We need you, whose story began in a time when families had deep-seeded roots of faith, virtue and trust in God, to complete the circle from whence you started.

8. We need you, who conquered the world; who flew us to the moon; who gave us the many comforts that we now take for granted, to continue being leaders.

A Convent at Mt. Angel

I’d like to share a picture with you
Of a convent that I used to visit
The grounds are quite extraordinary
Statues and crosses simply exquisite.

The nuns through the years dwindled
As time changed and the interest fell
Sister Philomena once was a resident
At a Convent in Oregon called Mt. Angel.
